Domestic Manufacturing Gets a Boost

American factories are getting more orders from small business as China production prices rise.

Good news for U.S. factories: American small businesses that had previously sought cheap production from foreign countries such as China are turning to domestic manufacturers, CNN reports.

Two issues are behind the revival: the rising price of Chinese manufacturing and uncertainty regarding the American economy, CNN reports.

During the recent downturn, wavering American consumer confidence has left businesses reluctant to commit to large orders, the story explains. That makes outsourcing production to a foreign country difficult, since a small business typically needs a large order to offset higher shipping costs. –John McDermott
